French lifts UMBC to 57-48 win

Eunice French recorded game-highs of 23 points and eight rebounds as host UMBC defeated Liberty, 57-48, yesterday in a Big South Conference game.

French has scored 20 or more points in her past three games. The win was the fourth straight and 10th in the past 13 for UMBC (10-7, 6-2).

The Retrievers led for almost the entire game, as they held the Flames (4-12, 2-4) scoreless for over eight minutes late in the first half en route to a 20-16 halftime lead.

Jan Jacob scored 10 points for UMBC. Liberty was led by Angie Johnson, who had 17 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Ginny Holloway had 14 points and five assists.

* Towson State 54, Radford 48: Amy Eberhart (Mount Hebron) and Trinette Tucker each scored 11 points, leading host Towson State (9-9, 8-1) past Radford (8-10, 6-3) in the Big South Conference.

With the Tigers up 50-48, Eberhart made two free throws, then Tucker added two more with five seconds left. Eberhart also had three assists for Towson State.

* Goucher 51, St. Mary's 41: Didi Cotton scored 16 points, including two three-pointers during a 10-0 second-half run, as Goucher (12-7, 8-2) beat visiting St. Mary's (3-11, 1-7) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Alice Kennedy added 10 points for Goucher. Cindy Davenport (Old Mill) led St. Mary's with 14.

* Salisbury State 68, Gallaudet 47: Kim Roth scored 17 points and Amy Fenzel added 12, leading host Salisbury State (15-4, 9-1) past Gallaudet (2-16, 0-8) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Nona Sutherland scored 18 points and Safeera Khan had 12 for Gallaudet.

* Muhlenberg 88, Washington 75: Lauren Krakowski scored 14 points in host Muhlenberg's win over Washington College (8-10, 4-6) in a Centennial Conference game.

Stephanie Cordasco added 14 points for Muhlenberg (8-10, 4-7) and Lori Mildt had 12. Eboni Taylor led all scorers with 31 points for Washington.
