Happy New Year
It's time to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of the Boar, so I'd like to wish everyone "Feliz Ano Nuevo!" That's Spanish for "Happy New Year!" I would have wished you happy new year in Chinese, but I don't speak Chinese. I took Spanish in high school. But I bet I could find out how to say "Feliz Ano Nuevo" in Chinese at the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival being held today at Grace and St. Peter's Parish. The festival will feature Chinese dancing and music, including an audience sing-along, as well as tai-chi and karate demonstrations, theatrical performances and, of course, a really cool dragon.
Chinese Lunar New Year Festival, Grace and St. Peter's Parish, 707 Park Ave., noon to 3 p.m. today, followed by a worship service at 5 p.m. Admission is free. Call (410) 539-1395.
The music of the Nevilles
If you want to have a good time and do a good thing for children in need, go see Aaron Neville and his brothers in concert at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Feb. 12. Enjoy the music of Aaron and his talented brothers (those would be the Neville Brothers. Clever name, don't you think?) and contribute to a good cause. Proceeds from the show go to Advocates for Children and Youth, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving child welfare. Tickets are $35, $75 and $125. If you purchase the $125 ticket, you get to be a big shot and go to a champagne reception after the concert.
