Two women arrested after shop is damaged

EDGEWOOD -- Sheriff's deputies arrested two women on burglary, theft and malicious destruction charges Tuesday night after several witnesses said a woman drove a brown pickup truck through a chain gate at Nelson & Wrenn Inc., an auto repair center near Routes 7 and 755, a sheriff's spokesman said yesterday.

Howard Nelson, the repair shop's owner, recognized the description of the truck and driver that witnesses had given deputies, said Sgt. Edward Hopkins.

Deputies found the pickup about 90 minutes later at the Edgewater Village Apartments and arrested Sharon Sue Triplett, of the 3200 block of Wilson Ave. in Abingdon, and Tonya George Davis, 38, of the 600 block of Red Oak Drive in Bel Air.

Ms. Triplett was taken to Fallston General Hospital and treated ,, for a leg cut, the sergeant said. Deputies found blood at the repair shop, where the glass in the front door had been broken to gain entry, he said.

HAVRE DE GRACE -- Susquehanna State Park rangers are investigating a series of vandalism incidents in which someone used a sledgehammer to destroy park equipment and public telephones, Department of Natural Resources officials said.

Park rangers said a urinal at the Deer Creek restroom was smashed and a telephone at the Lapidum Landing parking area was destroyed overnight last Sunday.

The same telephone had been damaged a week earlier, and other vandalism had occurred in the past month, they said.

The rangers asked anyone with information about the incidents to call the department's hot line at 1-800-825-PARK.

Robert D. Demby, 35, of the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive was charged with rape, assault with intent to commit murder, assault and battery. He was being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center.

The victim, also of Edgewood, said she knew her assailant. She said he tried to stab her in the face and stomach, punched her in the face and sexually assaulted her. She was treated at Harford Memorial Hospital for a lacerated lip, a swollen jaw and chest bruises, said Sgt. Edward Hopkins, the spokesman.
