THE FUNERAL BABE RUTH 100 YEARS

Ruth died on Aug. 16, 1948. His body lay in state at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 17 and 18, with tens of thousands of people filing past his coffin, many of them waiting for hours. On Aug. 19, thousands more filled St. Patrick's Cathedral and lined nearby streets for the funeral. He is buried in Hawthorne, N.Y., 20 miles north of Yankee Stadium.
