Federal immigration agents arrested 10 illegal immigrants yesterday in a morning raid on a Southwest Baltimore plant.
Six Mexicans, two Salvadorans, one Honduran and one Nicaraguan were arrested at Joe Corbi's Wholesale Pizza, Inc., 1430 DeSoto Road, said Thomas E. Perryman, supervisory special agent for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
He said they were earning about $7 an hour to put together pizza kits that are sold in school and team fund-raisers. He said most were expected to be released on $500 bond to await deportation hearings.
Mr. Perryman said Corbi's was raided in July 1992 and given a warning letter for employing immigrants without work permits. He said agents will investigate whether the pizza firm knowingly hired illegal immigrants.
Several workers showed agents phony documents. Mr. Perryman said a fake "green card" can be bought for $150 to $200.
Immigration agents arrested 12 illegal immigrants last week in raids on several Towson restaurants and the construction site of the Baltimore Convention Center expansion, Mr. Perryman said.
