Five companies announced plans in January to locate in the county or expand their facilities, adding more than 80 jobs and absorbing 134,000-square-feet of commercial space, the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. reported yesterday.
Inlingua Schools of Language opened a 5,000-square-foot office in Odenton on Piney Orchard Parkway. The company, with headquarters in Switzerland, has more than 270 schools worldwide and offers language training, translation, interpreting and cross-cultural education.
PPG Industries Auto Coating Division opened a 5,000-square-foot national training center in the Cromwell Business Park near the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. A staff of 15 will conduct 30 to 40 classes a year for about 700 technicians.
American Communications Services Inc. will move its corporate headquarters from Chicago to a 12,000-square-foot office in the National Business Park at Annapolis Junction. The long-distance telephone company has five fiber optic networks in four states and plans to have 20 networks nationwide by 1996. It employs 45 people.
Two county companies are expanding. Particle Technology increased its Hanover operation to 5,000 square feet. The company, in the 7300 block of Parkway Drive, develops and manufactures powders used in advanced ceramics and composite for use in semiconductor components and other applications. The company employs six people.
Madison Warehouse Corp. is increasing its space in North County to nearly 300,000 square feet, making its building one-third larger. The food-grade warehouse, on Carbide Road near Curtis Bay, handles individual packages and repackaging and storage. The business employs 15 people and plans to hire 15 more.
