St. Peter's hands Greyhounds 8th loss in past 9 games, 71-56


JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Randy Holmes scored 16 points to lead St. Peter's past Loyola, 71-56, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game last night.

The Greyhounds (5-12, 1-4), who have lost eight of their past nine games, shot 33.3 percent in the second half. Their starters shot 16-for-34 for the game.

Loyola trailed 36-30 at halftime, but St. Peter's (11-7, 5-1) opened the lead to 47-33 with 13:53 to play.

Bas de Voogd (12 points) scored eight points during an 11-3 run that gave St. Peter's its biggest lead. Mike Frensley added 12 for St. Peter's.

Loyola was led by David Credle's career-high 14 points, and John McDonald added 14. B. J. Pendleton, Loyola's leading scorer and rebounder, did not start and finished with five points, all from the foul line. He did, however, lead the team in rebounds with seven.
