ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Victor Newman tapped in Kevin Carter's missed shot with 47 seconds left in overtime to give UNC-Asheville the lead for good and the Bulldogs handed Towson State an 84-79 Big South loss yesterday.
The Bulldogs (4-3, 8-9) earned their first win over the Tigers (2-6, 7-9) in six tries.
Michael Keyes made an 18-footer to give Towson State a 72-70 lead with one second left in regulation but committed a foul on Ralf Melis -- who caught a full-court pass and attempted to shoot from under the rim. Officials ruled that time had not expired before the foul and Melis hit both foul shots to force overtime.
