Winthrop holds off Towson, 97-93

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Junior guard LaShawn Coulter scored 26 points to lead Winthrop University to a 97-93 Big South Conference victory over Towson State last night.

The Eagles (5-11, 2-5) trailed by 73-72 with 6:28 left when Coulter sparked a 6-0 run with his fourth three-pointer, which gave Winthrop a 78-73 lead. The Eagles protected the lead by scoring their last 13 points on free throws.

For the game, Winthrop made 35 of 44 from the free-throw line.

The Tigers fell to 7-8, 2-5 in the Big South.

Towson State was led by junior guard Ralph Blalock's 27 points. Blalock made 10 of 17 shots from the field.
