A Baltimore man was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with stealing gloves and soap from the Basics food store in Brooklyn Park, county police said yesterday.
Steven Barnes, 31, a security officer at the store in the 5600 block of Ritchie Highway, saw a man walk into the store shortly after 3 p.m. He told police the man put six pairs of gloves and
two bars of soap inside his coat and left without paying. The items were valued at $18, police said.
Mr. Barnes stopped the man at Ritchie Highway and Townsend Avenue, recovered the property and held him until police arrived.
Tony Ray Vanhook, 39, of the 2400 block of Loyola Northway, was charged with theft under $300, police said.
