Roger Morigi, 87, a master stone carver whose work adorns Washington's National Cathedral and other landmarks in the capital, died Thursday of emphysema. The native of Milan, Italy, spent 28 years working at the Episcopal cathedral, carving major works, including a figure of Jesus that hangs over the main altar. Other examples of his work are at the Supreme Court building, the U.S. Courthouse and the Justice and Agriculture Department headquarters.
Roderick Stephens Jr., 85, a naval designer and three-time America's Cup competitor, died Tuesday in New York. He helped develop the DUKW amphibious Army vehicle during World War II, earning him the Medal of Freedom.
