A 16-year-old East Baltimore boy was arrested yesterday and charged as an adult with the fatal shooting of another teen last October following a dispute over a girl, police said.
Edward Tillery, of the 1900 block of E. Chase St., is charged with killing Jermaine L. McMillian, 17, a ninth grade student at Lake Clifton High School who lived in the 2000 block of E. Hoffman St. He is due to appear today at a bail review hearing in District Court.
Young Tillery was arrested at his home around 7 a.m. yesterday by homicide detectives and Eastern District police on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder. He was held overnight at the district lockup pending today's bail review hearing.
The victim was near a school playground in the 1900 block of E. Chase St. around 11 p.m. on Oct. 25 when someone approached him from behind and shot him in the back with a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
The victim died at the scene.
The gun was never recovered.
Information gathered that night by homicide detective Mason Land indicated the victim was killed after a dispute over a teen-age girl.
Recent information concerning the suspect led to a warrant being issued for the Tillery youth's arrest.
Until recently, young Tillery attended the Harford Institute in the 2500 block of Harford Road, police said.
