Freshman guard Kendra Damann hit the winning shot with 1:07 left in the game to give host UMBC a 53-51 win over William & Mary (4-8) in women's basketball at UMBC Fieldhouse yesterday.
Damann, who finished with nine points, made a foul-line jumper that broke a 51-51 tie.
Senior center Eunice French had game highs of 16 points and nine rebounds for the Retrievers (4-5). Tori Moten, who missed her previous three foul shots, hit all three at the line to tie the game at 51 with 2:21 left.
Aquendine Khasidis, who led the Tribe with 12 points, had a chance to tie it, but her shot hit the front rim with one second remaining.
* Coppin State 71, S.C. State 61: Natasha Parks tied a career high with 24 points, hitting five three-pointers, to move visiting Coppin State (4-8) past South Carolina State (5-7). The Eagles forced the Bulldogs into 23 turnovers.
Lisa Briggs added 17 points and Stephanie Ready contributed 11 points and eight rebounds for Coppin State.
* Canisius 74, Loyola 65: Nicole Arlain came off the bench to tie
TC career high with 23 points as Canisius defeated host Loyola in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.
Patty Stoffey led the Greyhounds (9-3) with 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Coleen Colsher, who had five assists, is now the all-time assist leader at Loyola with 355.
Thais Alexander and Heather Fiore each scored 14 for the Griffins (8-4). Camille Joyner produced 10 points and 11 rebounds for Loyola, which shot 28 percent in the second half.
* Washington College 72, Gallaudet 58: Eboni Taylor led four Washington College players in double figures with 19 points to lead the host Shoremen (4-5) past Gallaudet. Washington's Lee Ann Lezzer (Old Mill) had 11 points, including three three-pointers, and five assists.
The Shoremen's Karen Sieger had 12 points, nine rebounds and six steals.
* Trenton State 66, Salisbury State 61: Shelly Brown had 18 points and nine rebounds to help visiting Trenton State (10-2) over Salisbury State (6-3).
* West Chester 67, Bowie State 54: Angela Haas had 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead host West Chester (5-7) past Bowie State (7-4).
* North Carolina A&T; 63, Morgan State 27: Hope Monroe scored 11 points to lead host North Carolina A&T; (4-3) past Morgan State (0-9). Kaira Warfield led the Bears with eight.
