Chicago Rockers (CBA) -- Announced the retirement of former NBA F Fred Roberts.

Frederick Flyers (Atlantic Basketball Association) -- Signed G Keith Carroll.

Colleges

Big West Conference -- Suspended New Mexico State C Crafton Ferguson for two games for elbowing UC Santa Barbara's Doug Muse.

Pigskin Classic -- Announced that Michigan will play host to the 1995 game.

Berea -- Named Craig Jefferson men's interim basketball coach and Kelly Combs men's assistant basketball coach.

UC-Irvine -- Suspended G Chris Brown from the men's basketball team for two games.

Mercer -- Announced that the women's basketball team will no longer be known as the Lady Bears or Teddy Bears, but as the Bears.

Notre Dame -- Junior WR Derrick Mayes announced that he will return for his senior year.

Texas -- Announced that WR Lovell Pinkney has declared himself eligible for the NFL draft.

Atlanta Falcons -- Announced that DE Chuck Smith had reconstructive surgery of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He will begin a seven-to-nine month rehabilitation program.

Carolina Panthers -- Signed OL Emerson Martin and ex-Washington Redskins OL Matt Elliott.

Green Bay Packers -- Placed S Ray Wilson on IR. Activated LB Bernard Carter.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Signed TE Rich Griffith, DT Ray Hall and WR Willie Harris.

New York Jets -- The Associated Press announced that it erroneously reported Thursday that the team had fired 14 assistant coaches along with head coach Pete Carroll. The assistants were not fired.
