Terrell Harris scored 19 points and John Woods added 18 to lead UMES (5-6) to a 75-51 victory over Delaware State (3-7) in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams last night in Dover.
UMES held a 28-24 halftime lead and outscored Delaware State 11-2 to extend the margin to 39-26 after Aaron McKinney's basket with 15:19 remaining.
Delaware State, which shot only 26 percent from the field, closed the gap to 10 points twice after that, the last time at 45-35.
* Western Maryland 79, Messiah 63: Daveiid St. Rose (Patapsco) and Jeff Daniels each scored 22 to lead Western Maryland (5-4) over Messiah (2-8) in a nonconference game in Westminster.
St. Rose, a sophomore who tied his career high, had 17 points to help the Green Terror forge a 45-28 halftime lead. Daniels, a junior forward, had a season high in points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
Western Maryland got 15 points from senior guard Pat Young (Mount St. Joseph).
* Georgetown (Ky.) 137, Villa Julie 67: Georgetown, ranked No. 7 in NAIA Division I, was too strong for visiting Villa Julie (1-7), which got 19 points from Donte Dudley (Woodlawn).
