Michael, a senior at Centennial, has a grade point average of 4.0.
He has been on the honor roll 13 times consecutively and a member of the National Honor Society since 1993.
Michael was the business editor for the school newspaper Wingspan and this year is editor. He is a tutor in math and English and other subjects.
He is a peer mediator and this year is on the Leadership Team appointed by the principal.
At Centennial, he belongs to the French Club and Drama Department. In March, he traveled to London and Paris on a Drama Department-sponsored trip.
Outside school, he volunteers for Voices for Children and was a camp counselor for the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks from 1989 to 1992. Michael worked in the political campaigns of candidates for the school board and state's attorney.
His awards include a 1994 Advanced Placement Scholar; semifinalist, Maryland Distinguished Scholar; and being chosen as representative to the 1994 Johns Hopkins University Student Health Outreach Central seminar. He was accepted to the 1994 University of Maryland's Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. He was nominated for the 1994 Princeton University Book Award and received the 1994 Maryland Scholastic Press Association First Place Award for ad design Michael participated in the Guild Examinations sponsored by the American College of Musicians and received superior scores for the past six years in piano. He has participated in recitals and music festivals sponsored by the Howard County and Greater Laurel Music Teachers Association.
His parents are Marc and Ellen Mugmon. He has a brother Matthew, 13.
Plans: Michael would like to study prelaw and government. He said he would like to work behind the scenes in politics.
His comments: ". . . I have done what I like to do and have tried hard do accomplish my goals." He is considering attending the University of Pennsylvania, or Princeton, Cornell, Georgetown or Columbia universities.
