Montpelier Cultural Arts Center showcases local artists this month, opening three new exhibits.
Montpelier Resident Artist Pamela Harris Lawson will exhibit her new prints at Montpelier Cultural Arts Center from Jan. 4 through Feb. 25.
Her work illustrates her pride in the often neglected accomplishments of African-American women.
This exhibit "Generations," features prints of black women in the workplace and in other roles.
A native of Washington, Ms. Lawson received a degree in studio art and sociology at the University of Virginia and a master's of fine arts in printmaking from Howard University.
Her works have been exhibited by Howard University, the University of Maryland, the Zenith Gallery, the Art Barn and other venues.
Montpelier program director Nancy Sausser has put together an exhibit, "Carved and Cut: Contemporary Woodcuts," that will hang from Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 in the main gallery at the center.
The exhibit features the varied themes and techniques by artists Cynthia Alderdice, Judy Byron, Aline Feldman, Ellen Hill and Chris Mona.
Maryland artist Camellia Blackwell was invited to photograph the annual Egun Gun Festival in Ipetumodou, Nigeria. We are the richer for her efforts as her photographs hang in a new exhibit, "African Photographs," at the Centers Library Gallery.
Ms. Blackwell is a professor at the University of the District of Columbia and executive director of the International Center for Artistic Development. Her works have been exhibited by Artscape in Baltimore, Howard University, Morgan State University and Loyola College.
The Montpelier Cultural Arts Center is holding a reception honoring these artists Jan. 6, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come meet the artists and explore the relationship between art and language. For more information about this, or the various classes available, call the center at (301)490-2329.

It's time for the monthly pajama fashion show at the Savage Library.
Yes, it time once again for Bedtime Story Times, a drop-in story-telling session for preschoolers.
Bring your little tykes to the Savage branch on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. for this half-hour session.
Say hi to Kathryn Bloom, the new children's librarian at the branch.
The children are allowed to come in their pajamas, to facilitate bedtime when returning home. Let the children wear their nocturnal finery to this enchanting story time.
