Man in car is wounded by gunman

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A man out on bail for a shooting last July on Greenmount Avenue during which a man was killed and eight people were wounded remained in critical condition today at a local hospital after being shot several times in his car in the 6300 block of Reisterstown Road.

Police said Tyrone Taylor, 29, of the 2300 block of McCulloh St., was shot in the right side, right arm and right leg as he sat behind the wheel of his 1989 BMW that also was occupied by his 4-year-old daughter and his 29-year-old girlfriend.

Because the child and woman witnessed the shooting, police declined to identify them.

Police said Mr. Taylor was stopped behind a white van around 5:15 p.m. yesterday and was waiting for a red light to change at Reisterstown Road and Fords Lane when a passenger in the van exited the vehicle and walked to the passenger's side of Mr. Taylor's car.

The man then fired several shots into the car, missing the child as she sat next to her father in a child's car seat, but hitting Mr. Taylor at least four times. The woman also was not hit.

Police said the gunman returned to the van, which sped off.

Police said Mr. Taylor's girlfriend climbed over the front seat and moved the man to one side before getting behind the wheel and driving south on Reisterstown Road to West Northern Parkway, where she was headed toward Sinai Hospital before being stopped by police responding to the shooting.

Mr. Taylor was removed from the car and taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was listed today in critical but stable condition.

Police said there was no immediate evidence linking Mr. Taylor's shooting yesterday to the July incident in the 1000 block of Greenmount Ave., when Mr. Taylor and another man allegedly became involved in a shoot-out that killed one man and wounded eight other bystanders. Neither Mr. Taylor nor the other gunman were wounded.

Mr. Taylor was later arrested and charged with homicide. He was released on bail.
