A man armed with a handgun robbed an Ellicott City 7-Eleven store of money and cigarettes yesterday morning.
The man entered the store in the 9400 block of Route 40 about 4:50 a.m. and, while showing the gun, demanded money and cigarettes from the clerk, said Sgt. Steven Keller, county police spokesman.
hTC After taking the cash and three or four cartons of cigarettes, the man fled in a late-model, light-blue two-door sedan. Police would not specify how much money was taken.
The man is described by police as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall, in his mid-20s, with a heavy build, mustache and beard. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a white T-shirt, gray sweat pants and brown work boots.
Babe Ruth League to debut in 1995
After meetings with district and state Babe Ruth League officials, a board of directors has established a Babe Ruth League for Howard County that will begin its first season in 1995. Offering baseball in age groups 11-12, 13, 14-15 and 16-18 for its first season, the group hopes to also offer programs for ages 5 through 10 in 1996 or 1997.
The league will hold two community organizational meetings and registration at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 and Jan. 25 in the cafeteria of Centennial High School.
Open registration will be held in The Mall at Columbia in front of Woodward and Lothrop's department store from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 28.
