The two men suspected in the slaying of a Baltimore County Christmas-tree dealer were denied bail last night after being extradited from Florida earlier yesterday.

Steven Lee Ussel, 21, and David Lawrence Carlton, 28, both of eastern Baltimore County, were denied bail by court Commissioner Francis X. Hayes during a hearing in Towson District Court.

Mr. Ussel and Mr. Carlton were arrested Christmas Day in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 23 slaying of Paul Robert Zinkhan, 53, of Perry Hall.

Mr. Zinkhan, who sold plants and produce in the summer and Christmas trees during the holidays, owned the A to Z Greenery in the 9700 block of Belair Road and lived in a trailer on the property. He was killed during an apparent robbery, court

documents said.

The two suspects arrived at District Court in Towson about 8:45 p.m. in two unmarked police cars. They were transported from White Marsh where the Dec. 23 incident occurred. Both suspects, who were set for a bail review hearing at 1:30 p.m. today, were taken to the Baltimore County Detention Center after the hearing.
