Dunbar sails to victory in Delaware TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP

Marvis Thornton scored 20 and Tommy Polley added 15 points and 10 rebounds as No. 2 Dunbar (6-0) routed Hempstead (N.Y.), 71-37, in the semifinals of the Slam Dunk to the Beach Tournament in Lewes, Del., yesterday.

The Poets meet Sanford Prep of Delaware today at 5:45 p.m.

* Joppatowne 64, Dundalk 57: Alonzo McDowell scored 18 and Lamar Williams added 17 as Joppatowne (4-1) defeated No. 20 Dundalk (5-1) in the first round of the Joppatowne Tournament.

* Barberton 89, Gibbons 77: Keith Phoebus scored 25 for the Crusaders (9-2) but Barberton (Ohio) downed Gibbons in the semifinals of the Stop DWI Classic.

* Bishop McCorristin (N.J.) 68, Calvert Hall 60: Juan Dixon led Calvert Hall with 20 points as the Cardinals lost to Bishop McCorristin.

* Lansdowne 67, Parkville 55: James Keyser scored 18 to lead the Vikings (3-4) to the Lansdowne Tournament title.

Girls basketball

* Western 58, Hollidaysburg 41: Chanel Wright scored 22 and had 21 rebounds to lead No. 1 Western (6-0) past Hollidaysburg (Pa.) in a semifinal of the Rotary Classic in Altoona, Pa. Western faces Altoona in tonight's championship at 8.
