Man charged in attack of girlfriend, her son

A 33-year-old man was released on his own recognizance by a court commissioner after a brief standoff with state police.

Ronald Gordon Riley Jr., who lived with his girlfriend near Morgan Run, was charged with assaulting the girlfriend and her son Monday.

State police said they were called to the house about 5:30 p.m. Monday after a man reportedly became angry at the supper table and allegedly kicked a chair into the woman's son, hitting the boy on the right knee. The youth's mother told investigators the man then pushed the boy out of his chair and to the floor, grabbed the youth from behind and took him to the kitchen. The suspect is accused of throwing the youth against the wall and sitting him on the stove.

The woman said she screamed for the man to stop and told him to leave the house. The woman told police the man then grabbed her from behind and tried to throw her out the door.

The woman said she took her son, an 11-year-old daughter and the daughter's friend to a neighbor's house and waited for police. She told troopers the man went to his "gun room" on the upper level of the house and closed the door as she left her house. The officers surrounded the house and contacted the man by telephone. He left the building and was arrested.

The woman was taken to Carroll County General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries she suffered in the scuffle and was released, police said.

The woman told police her son didn't like the food she prepared for dinner, which apparently caused the man to become angry.
