A man robbed a High's convenience store Monday after fleeing a nearby Exxon station in frustration when a clerk couldn't get the cash drawer open, Annapolis police said.
The man entered the gas station office at Forest at Hillsmere drives shortly after 5 p.m. and handed the clerk a threatening note. The clerk, who is Chinese and speaks little English, told police that the only words she understood were "gun" and "money."
She told police that while she was fumbling with the cash register, the man pointed what appeared to be a handgun at her. Finally, the man tried to open the cash drawer himself but failed and ran, police said.
Moments later, the man entered the convenience store, placed the threatening note on the counter and took about $40 from the register. The store's clerk told officers that she saw the man run toward Quiet Waters Park.
