Cookbook is full of tasty bytes and good-for-you information

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Computerized cookbooks have been around for several years, but the electronic Betty Crocker's Cookbook fits in your pocket, runs on batteries and contains nutritional information for each of its more than 1,000 recipes.

Made by Franklin Electronic Publishers of Mount Holly, N.J., the cherry-red unit is based on the 40th anniversary edition of the cookbook. It weighs 3.6 ounces and has a flip-up lid.

Users can find recipes for poultry, meats, soups, sandwiches, fish, desserts and other foods by entering an ingredient or a food category or by searching alphabetically by title or food category. Nutrition information includes calories, fat and cholesterol per serving.

The pocket-size unit is about $80. The cookbook also will be available soon in a credit-card size for about $40. Check for it at such stores as Brookstone, Neiman Marcus, Office Depot, and the Sharper Image. For information or to order by mail call (800) 762-5382.
