EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- David Meggett, a potential free agent who likely would be sought after by many teams, said yesterday that he wants to remain with the New York Giants.
"To get me to leave, it's going to take a lot," he said. "I'm no even talking financially. I'm comfortable here, I'm familiar with the situation here, and I like to live here."
Coach Dan Reeves at first refused to reveal a priority list foretaining free agents, then said: "I don't think it would take a genius to figure out that Dave Meggett, if he isn't at the top, he's got to be pretty dadgum close. I'll say that to anyone but his agent."
Meggett, a Towson State alumnus, returned 26 punts in 1994 foa 12.4-yard average and two touchdowns, and 29 kickoffs for an 18.9 average. He rushed 91 times for 298 yards and four touchdowns, and also passed for a touchdown.
