Teen-ager is shot in incident with officers
A 16-year-old boy was shot and arrested by police last night in the 800 block of Arnold Ct. in East Baltimore when he pointed a shotgun at two officers, said Officer Sabrina Tapp-Harper, a city police spokeswoman.
About 7:30 p.m., Officer Derron Garrity, a five-year veteran, was teaching a trainee, Michael Gardner, how to work "a uniformed covert position" and how to observe illegal drug activity when the two were confronted by three youths, Officer Tapp-Harper said.
"One of the suspects produced a shotgun and pointed it at both officers," Officer Tapp-Harper said. "Both of the officers fired on the suspect, striking him once in the lower arm." She declined to release the youth's identity.
The youth then fled and was found in bushes in the 1600 block of E. Eager St., police said. The shotgun was also recovered, and the suspect was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation, Officer Tapp-Harper said.
Suspects in killing arrested in Florida
PERRY HALL -- Florida police yesterday arrested two Baltimore County men wanted in the slaying of a Perry Hall Christmas tree dealer who was found dead Friday.
Steven Lee Ussel, 21, of the 1200 block of Bridge Crossing Road, Essex, and David Lawrence Carlton, 28, of the 1900 block of Madison Road, Dundalk, were arrested at a telephone booth by police in Jacksonville Beach and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Paul Robert Zinkhan, police said.
The body of Mr. Zinkhan, 53, was found by one of his employees at the A to Z Garden Center in the 9700 block of Belair Road in Perry Hall. He lived at the site in a trailer.
Mr. Zinkhan's body was found on the ground near a side door of the building from which he sold plants and produce in the summer and Christmas trees during the holidays.
The cause of death was a blow to the head, and robbery was a motive in the killing, police said.
