Taneytown man held on charges of child abuse

A 20-year-old Taneytown man was being held yesterday in lieu of $750,000 bond after he was charged with 14 counts of child abuse, second degree sex offense, battery and other sex acts on a Carroll County boy.

State police said Charles Borroneo Purdum of the 3500 block of Fringer Road is being investigated on similar charges involving three other boys in the county.

Tfc. Joseph Newcomer said he received a complaint from a youth Tuesday and made an arrest Wednesday. The suspect was charged after being questioned.

Officers said the boy reported he was abused on two dates in the past month. Additional charges are expected, they said.

FIRE

* New Windsor: Engines from New Windsor, Union Bridge and Taneytown were dispatched to a chimney fire on Clear Ridge Road at 11:09 a.m. yesterday. Units were out for 50 minutes.

* Union Bridge: Union Bridge and Taneytown plus New Midway, Rocky Ridge and Woodsboro of Frederick County were dispatched to a house fire in the 6100 block of Middleburg Road at 4:50 a.m. yesterday. Units were out for 45 minutes.
