Smash-and-grab burglar is a no-show during stakeout

THE BALTIMORE SUN

State police are searching for a man who eluded a two-week stakeout in the Melrose, Manchester and Hampstead areas along Hanover Pike.

The man is believed to have committed at least eight "smash-and-grab" burglaries in the last month.

Investigators said the man has kicked in doors and windows of gasoline stations, convenience stores and liquor stores, taking large quantities of cigarettes.

Police conducted a stakeout in the area for about two weeks, but were not able to catch the burglar, described as a white man between 20 and 25 years old. He is 5 foot, 8 inches tall and has a husky build with brown hair cut in a flat top.

Officers said the man has a birth mark on his left cheek and during one of his offenses was wearing a Philadelphia Eagles' Starter jacket.

The man was seen driving a 1992 to 1994, bright metallic blue Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck, with damage to the lower part of the driver's door.

The vehicle has Pennsylvania tags.

Anyone with information may call the state police at 876-8989 or 848-3111.
