It was an early-season mini-test for the fourth-ranked North Carroll wrestling team and the Panthers passed with about a B-plus last night.
North Carroll began the evening by waltzing past North East of Cecil county, 47-23, and then the Panthers closed out a scrappy North Harford squad, 45-27, in a tri-match at North Carroll.
In the other match of the night, North Harford turned back North East, 38-30.
North Carroll raised its overall record to 5-0, to go along with a win in the Meade tournament and a third-place finish in the McDonogh tourney.
The Panthers never were in any serious trouble in either match, but North Harford gave the home team something to think about by jumping off to a 9-0 lead.
However, the Hawks would have little to cheer about the rest of the night once sophomore 119-pounder Dameon Davis began a stretch of six consecutive pins for the Panthers.
Davis pinned North Harford's Mike Liplap in 4 minutes, 10 seconds to start the North Carroll streak, and Erik Hott completed the string of pins with a fall over Danny Larsen at 145 pounds in 2:56.
The Hott fall gave North Carroll a 36-9 lead, and Eric Giffi clinched the match for the Panthers with a 7-5 decision over North Harford's Sam Collins.
In between the Davis and Hott falls, Adam Boog, Corey Rill, Gene Phillips and Tom Kiler all recorded pins for the winners.
For Boog, Rill and Hott, it was their second pins of the tri-match. All three had scored falls against North East.
"Those six guys [from Davis to Hott] are right where I want them to be," said first-year North Carroll coach Bryan Wetzel. "But the other guys in the higher weight classes have to learn to stay off their backs and keep from being pinned."
After Giffi wrapped up the North Harford match, the next three North Carroll wrestlers were pinned, allowing the Hawks to make the final score a lot more respectable.
Colin Eutsler, Jason Simons and Brian Seabrease were pinned by North Harford's Jason Eicholtz, Paul Konschak and Tom Staub.
Panthers heavyweight Bill Beltz ended that three-bout slide by pinning Tom Kaun in 4:10.
"We didn't let up after clinching the North Harford match," said Wetzel. "We were just coming to those weight classes where we're having trouble."
The only disappointment of the night for North Carroll was the fact that Davis was beaten for the first time this season.
North East's Ernie Miller decisioned Davis, 6-2, ending Davis' perfect record in his first season on the varsity. But Wetzel was encouraged the way Davis, now 10-1, bounced back with a pin against North Harford, giving him six this season.
