School musicians will perform holiday concert

The MacArthur Middle School Music Department will present a winter concert at 7 p.m. today in the school gymnasium.

Selections will be performed by the intermediate and concert bands, the string orchestra, the jazz ensemble and the chorus.

The groups have been entertaining younger audiences during the holiday season by visiting area elementary schools. The concert band and orchestra have performed for patients in the children's unit at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

The school is at 3033 Rockenbach Road on Fort Meade.

Millersville Elementary School, 1601 Millersville Road, is presenting a holiday concert at 2 p.m. today for students and 7 p.m. today in the school auditorium.

Admission is free.

The Parent Teacher Student Organization at Arundel Middle School is meeting at 7 p.m. today at the school, 1179 Hammond Lane in Odenton.

The school band will perform its winter concert for families and students before the meeting. A music assembly for students is set for 8:15 a.m. tomorrow.

The parishioners of Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church will present live Nativity scenes Thursday and Saturday on the front lawn of the church on Murray Road in Odenton.

The presentation Thursday is scheduled at 7 p.m. There will be three presentations Saturday: at 5 p.m. before the Christmas Eve family service; from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. before the candlelight service; and from 10 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. before the 11 p.m. service.

David Fair of the NASA/GODDARD Visitor Center will take seniors at the O'Malley Center on a tour of the galaxy today with a presentation of the slides taken by cameras in the Hubble Space Telescope and the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory.

The show, "A New Look at the Universe," is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the center, 1275 Odenton Road.

These two NASA orbiting observatories are designed to help us look at more of the universe. For more information, call 222-6227 or 621-9515, the center's Washington line.

Faith's Community Church, 1306 Waugh Chapel Road in Gambrills, is celebrating Christmas with a Candlelight and Communion Service at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The choir has prepared Christmas music, and the service will conclude with communion and the candle ceremony.

North Arundel Hospital's Odenton Medical Center, 1215 Annapolis Road in Odenton, offers free health screenings to area residents.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, they hold breast cancer and blood pressure screenings. Prostate screenings are conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays.

The Gambrills Athletic Club is sponsoring a New Year's Eve Party, starting at 8 p.m. at the club, McNew Road and Route 175 in Gambrills.

Admission is $20 per person or $35 per couple, and includes a buffet dinner, beer, setups and party favors.

SKYLINE will provide the music, beginning at 9:00 p.m.
