Orioles -- Acquired P John DeSilva from the Los Angeles Dodgers for P John O'Donoghue. Named Steve Pastorino GM of Single-A High Desert.

Colorado Rockies -- Signed P Wilfredo Martino, P Jose Mesa and OF Carlos Rosario to their club in the Dominican Summer League.

Florida Marlins -- Assigned the contract of former Orioles P Richie Lewis outright to Triple-A Charlotte. Announced that P Ryan Bowen will miss the 1995 season after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured left patella tendon.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Named Lamar Johnson batting coach.

New York Mets -- Signed P Mike Birkbeck, who spent last season with the Atlanta Braves' Triple-A affiliate in Richmond.

Seattle Mariners -- Signed IF Luis Sojo to a one-year contract. Named former Oriole Terry Kennedy manager, Juan Eichelberger pitching coach and Tom LeVasseur coach of Single-A Riverside.

Northern League -- Unaffiliated league named Dan Moushon executive director.

Basketball

NBA -- Named Utah Jazz F Karl Malone Player of the Week. He led the Jazz to a 5-0 record, averaging 26.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

Colleges

NCAA -- Named Alcorn State QB Steve McNair winner of the Walter Payton Award as the top football player in Division I-AA. Named Youngstown State's Jim Tressel winner of the Eddie Robinson Award as the top I-AA coach.

Big South Conference -- Named Towson State junior G Ralph Blalock men's basketball Player of the Week; he had 13 points in a loss to Maryland and 24 points, including the game-winning three-pointer, in an 84-83 win over Delaware. Named Towson State junior F Tanya Belair women's basketball Player of the Week; she had 32 points and 24 rebounds, shooting 55.1 percent from the field, in losses to Maryland and Hofstra.

Akron -- Named Paul Winters offensive coordinator and assistant head football coach, and John Peterson defensive line coach.

Florida State -- Announced that OL Clay Shiver sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and OL Lewis Tyre injured his left shoulder. Neither will practice again until after Christmas.

Georgia Southern -- Named Tony McAndrews men's assistant basketball coach; McAndrews was 80-120 as head coach at Colorado State from 1981 to 1986.

Loyola -- Placed 11 athletes on MAAC all-academic teams for the fall semester. Senior men's tennis player Ted McCarthy (3.11 grade-point average, chemistry) and senior soccer players Michael Konopaski (3.43, economics) and Bill Wnek (3.18, business management) each earned honors for the third time. The others: men's soccer -- junior Chris Doyle (3.39, writing/media); women's soccer -- junior Lynn Tasca (3.37 psychology); men's cross country -- junior Phil Hurley (3.49, biology); women's tennis -- sophomore Christine Earl (3.77, psychology) and senior Jeanne Havas (3.04, speech pathology); golf -- senior Bryan Lebedevitch (3.03, finance), sophomore Brandon Luckett (3.33, business); junior Keith Rymer (3.21, accounting).

Mansfield -- Named Joe Viadella football coach.

Wooster -- Fired football coach Bob Tucker (29-66-1, including 1-9 this season).

Soccer

U.S. Soccer Federation -- Named Timo Liekoski director of coaching and player development.
