Two city teen-agers, one 13 and the other 14, were injured last night when the stolen car they were riding in crashed and overturned in Melrose, Carroll County, after leading several police cars on a 20-mile chase that included shots fired by a state trooper.
The youths were treated at Carroll County General Hospital pending their being sent to the Charles H. Hickey School in Baltimore County.
According to police, an off-duty state trooper noticed five northbound stolen cars running a red light on Reisterstown Road in Baltimore County around 9 p.m. last night.
The trooper gave chase, causing the cars to split up and head in different directions. The trooper followed one of them, a 1989 Acura Legend, north toward Reisterstown.
At the Hanover Pike outside Reisterstown, the trooper got ahead of the car and attempted to block its path, but the driver of the Acura veered away.
The trooper fired at least four shots, hitting the car three times but missing the occupants. The Acura sped off toward Melrose with state and Baltimore County police following.
In Melrose, the driver of the stolen car struck two police cars before losing control and overturning several times. Police said both youths sustained minor injuries.
