Heather, a senior, has served on the African Awareness Club for four years at Centennial. The organization promotes African-American heritage in the school and community through service projects and educational programs. Members are collecting coats and cans for a holiday charity drive. In her sophomore year, Heather was a cheerleader. As a junior, she was in the school theater production of "Sugar."
Heather has been a member of the Honor Society for two years and is treasurer this year. She has a 3.9 grade point average. In ninth, 11th and 12th grades she participated in the Ronald McNail Youth Leadership Seminar.
Outside of school, she is active at her church, St. John's Baptist Church in Columbia. She has been on the Church Youth Usher Board and in the Youth Choir for four years. She has played
piano for seven years and plays at her church. Heather belongs to Tots 'n' Teens, a national family organization for African-Americans in Columbia. The nonprofit organization performs community service, puts on parties and seminars. As a freshman, she was secretary of Tots 'n' Teens.
Heather volunteered at Johns Hopkins Hospital, helping nurses and a physical therapist.
Among Heather's awards are Distinguished Scholar, honorable mention; Student of the Month; Certificate of Participation, Piano Accomplishment; and Certificate of Participation, Martin Luther King Celebration.
Heather's parents are Gerald and Jane Green. She has a sister Hillary, 13.
Plans: She wants to attend a four-year university and medical school to become a pediatrician.
Her comments: "I always wanted to be a doctor," she said. "I didn't know why until I went to Hopkins and decided I liked what I was doing."
