* Three members of the Carroll County Government Study Commission last week issued a minority report, striking out at a proposal for charter government and charging that the commission's study "has been an entirely superficial one." The minority report, signed by C. Rogers Hall, Jr., Thomas R. O'Farrell and William Heinekamp, called for such changes in county government as the development of a county police force, an elected school board and a merit system for county employees and making the position of state's attorney a full-time one. -- Democratic Advocate, Dec. 8, 1969.

* Much anxiety was felt when the new mail man, Roger Whitehill, did not arrive at his usual time Wednesday morning and as Leidy's dead wagon passed in the direction of Union Bridge, we thought his horse had dropped dead. Some thought he broke down or had lost his way. On investigation we learned that the mail train had been taken off, that we will not receive our mail now til after dinner, which is a second-handed convenience. If the railroad can't afford to run the old fast mail, they might cut the 10 o'clock train back to 8 and try to accommodate the people who live up here in this part of the state. -- Union Bridge Pilot, Dec. 12, 1919.

* The Practitioner says apples have many good medicinal qualities. Chemically, they are composed of vegetable fiber, albumen, sugar, gum, chlorophyll, malic acid, gallic acid, lime and much water. Furthermore, the German analysts say that the apple contains a larger percentage of phosphorus than any other fruit or vegetable. The phosphorus is admirably adapted to renewing the essential nervous matter of the brain and the spinal cord. -- American Sentinel, Dec. 8, 1894.
