A 24-year-old Hanover, Pa., man who was a passenger in a car that ran off Route 97 near Stone Road and struck a utility pole about 1:45 a.m. yesterday was released after treatment at Carroll County General Hospital.
Matthew B. Peyton of the 200 block E. Elm St. was the passenger in a 1988 Hyundai Excel driven by Ted Ronald Lau, 26, of the 2300 block of Old New Windsor Road, New Windsor, when the crash occurred, state police said.
Investigators said Mr. Lau was driving north on Littlestown Pike and failed to reduce his speed enough to negotiate a curve just north of Stone Road. The auto crossed the center line of the highway, struck an embankment and continued approximately 600 feet across a field before striking the pole, police said.
Mr. Lau was issued three citations by the state police. He was not taken to a hospital. Both men were wearing safety belts.
