County police arrested two Crofton men and a Bowie man on drug charges early yesterday after a search of the car in which they were riding and an apartment where two of them live turned up suspected marijuana worth more than $16,000 and $9,000 in cash, authorities said.

An officer who had been told to look for a "suspicious vehicle" stopped the car with three men inside at Conway Road and Patuxent Road about 3 a.m. and received the owner's consent to search it, police said.

The officer reported finding several pounds of a substance that field-tested positive for marijuana in the trunk along with a safe containing $7,800. Police searched an apartment in the 900 block of Eastham Court in Crofton and recovered an additional $1,200, police said.

Sean Gregory Birckhead, 21, and Lance J. Binnall, 22, both of the 900 block of Eastham Court, and Ricardo Nuno De Jesus Docuto, 20, of the 6700 block of Homestake Drive, Bowie, were each charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, police said.
