Catherine Filene Shouse, 98, an arts benefactor who founded the Wolf Trap performing arts center in Vienna, Va., died Wednesday in Naples, Fla. She was first named to the board of what is now the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., in 1958 and served through the 1970s. She also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She was the widow of Jouett Shouse, former chairman of the National Democratic Committee. She was the first woman on the committee and the first woman to earn a master's degree in education from Harvard University.
