Shadowbrooks Farm gives awards to young equestrians

Riders from Shadowbrooks Farm in Elkridge recently received awards at an annual banquet at Turf Valley Hotel and Country Club Dec. 3.

National rider and trainer Ray Texel, at Shadowbrook to teach a jumping clinic, attended the banquet.

Megan Handshu, 10, daughter of David and Becca Handshu of Ellicott City, is reserve champion in the Short Stirrup and the Pleasure Horse and Pony Divisions. Megan competed on Brian Brockmeyer's pony Better Believe It and also received sixth place in the Low Pony Hunter Division.

Brian Brockmeyer, 13, of Baltimore County and grandson of Edward Brockmeyer Sr., captured the reserve championship in the Junior Equitation under 14 Division and fifth place in the HCHSA Junior Medal.

Brian also rode CaraLee Baxter's Ascara to a seventh-place standing in the Junior Hunter Division. He also competed on his own horse, Hope For A Good Day, and Shadow Max, owned by Melanie Sarcino of Elkridge.

Christine Board, 16, and Ted Lawson's Brandy received the Reserve Champion Award for the Junior Equitation Division 14 to 17 and sixth place in the Howard County Horse Show Association Medal. Brandy was fourth place in the Junior Hunter Division. Christine is the daughter of Howard and Randi Board of Ellicott City.

Kendra Grasso, 13, daughter of Cliff and Linda Bobo of Ellicott City rode Brilliant Mistral, owned by Barbara Spence of Woodbine. Kendra captured the championship in the Equitation under 14.

The Jenny Olsen Memorial Trophy was presented to Kendra as the High Score Junior Equitation Rider for Howard County Horse Show Association.

* Elkridge: 6300 block of Route 1: Someone smashed the front window of Deli-Mart and stole money from registers Wednesday.

6700 block of Old Waterloo Road: Someone tried to steal a blue 1991 Dodge Spirit and a gray 1993 Dodge Spirit Tuesday.

* Ellicott City: 6600 block of Hunter Road: Someone stole a red 1986 Chevrolet Blazer, crashed it and left it near the site of the theft early Monday, early Monday.
