County police arrested a Ferndale man on drug charges in the parking lot of North County High School shortly after midnight Monday, authorities said yesterday.
Officer Richard A. Schinzel was making a routine check of the lot about 12:30 a.m. when he saw a man sitting in a Dodge. As he approached the car, he smelled marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle, police said.
The man denied he had drugs in the car and allowed Officer Schinzel to search it. The officer found a pipe containing marijuana residue and a small cellophane pack and a plastic bag of marijuana on the suspect, police said.
Joel Christopher Garvin, 20, of the 200 block of Oakleigh Ave. was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Couple gets away with bag full of stolen goods
A man and a woman filled two trash bags with clothes and linens Monday evening at a McCrory's store in the Cromwell Field Shopping Center and escaped after eluding store employees and police, authorities said yesterday.
A manager at the store in the 7300 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. saw the pair running from the store about 6 p.m. She called the police, but officers working the light rail detail searched the area and could not find the suspects, authorities said.
The thieves took socks, underwear, sheets and towels. The store manager could not give police an exact count of the items lost or their value, authorities said.
