A Union Mills woman was killed when the car she was driving struck a utility pole and a tree stump and ejected her on Littlestown Pike Saturday, state police said.
Kimberly Dawn Hawk, 32, of the 4300 block of Old Hanover Road was pronounced dead at the site of the accident, which occurred about 5:40 p.m., police said. Judy Lee Dimitri, 38, of Taneytown, a passenger in the 1985 Pontiac Trans Am, was not injured.
Investigators said Ms. Hawk was driving the Trans Am north on Route 97 about 800 feet north of Pleasant Valley Road when the vehicle ran off the right side of the highway and struck a utility pole. The Pontiac spun clockwise and hit a tree stump at the driver's door.
Police said Ms. Hawk was partially ejected through the T-top as the vehicle overturned and rolled on her. The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore to determine the cause of death and if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
Investigators said they were told the women had been drinking before the crash and there was evidence of alcohol use in the vehicle.
