Fifteen people were hospitalized after two accidents within two miles and about one hour apart on Route 140 outside Westminster on Sunday.
Fourteen were treated and released at Carroll County General Hospital, according to a spokeswoman.
After the first accident, Jennifer L. Boschert, 15, of the 3700 block of Old Taneytown Road was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in the state police MedEvac helicopter. She remained in fair condition yesterday, a spokeswoman said.
Police said the teen-ager was a passenger in a 1974 Volkwagen Beetle driven by George Boschert, 35, of the same address as the victim. Mr. Boschert was eastbound on Route 140 at 11:40 a.m. and failed to stop at the traffic light at Royer Road. He collided with a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Yvette Ann Garns, 32, of the 300 block of Mayfield Court, Westminster.
Seven people were injured in that accident. Mr. Boschert was charged with failure to stop for the traffic signal, city police said.
Slightly more than an hour later, seven residents from Baltimore, all in a 1988 Oldsmobile, and one person from Westminster were taken to Carroll County General after the driver of the Oldsmobile, Daniel Barry Bruce, 32, of the 200 block of S. Highland Ave. crashed into the rear of a vehicle stopped on South Pleasant Valley Road at Route 140.
None of the occupants of Mr. Bruce's vehicle, including five children between the ages of 6 and 12, was wearing seat belts, state police said.
Annette Vivian Long, 35, of the 100 block of N. Center St., Westminster, was alone in her 1983 Plymouth Turismo when she was struck from behind.
