Dick Simon Racing -- Named Hiro Matsushita and Eliseo Salazar 1995 PPG IndyCar World Series drivers and David La Croix and Diego Guzman Indy Lights drivers.


Kansas City Royals -- Signed P Mark Gubicza (7-9, 4.50 ERA; 116 career wins, all with Kansas City) to a one-year contract. Announced that OF Felix Jose (.303, 11 HRs, 55 RBIs) refused assignment and chose to become a free agent; he was eligible for salary arbitration.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Reached a tentative agreement with 3B Tim Wallach (.280, 23 HRs, 78 RBIs) on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Although he can earn an additional $600,000 in incentives, his base salary will be less than half his $3.3 million earnings in 1994.

Minnesota Twins -- Signed P Mark Guthrie (4-2, 6.14 ERA) to a one-year contract. Named Sal Butera manager, Gorman Heimueller pitching coach and ex-Oriole Jim Dwyer hitting coach of Double-A Hardware City.

Davidson -- Announced Kerstin Kimel, women's lacrosse coach, has resigned to accept a similar position at Duke.

Iowa State -- Named Sam Papalii and Steve Looney assistant football coaches.

Johns Hopkins -- Freshman soccer F Eric West was named to the NCAA Division III All-America third team; he scored 22 goals and added five assists for 49 points, breaking the school's single-season scoring record and helping the Blue Jays reach the NCAA championship game. Senior NT Michael House was selected to the GTE Academic All-America College Division first team for the second straight year; he has a 4.0 GPA as a biology major and had 63 tackles.

Louisiana State -- Named Gerry DiNardo football coach.

Morris Brown -- Announced that AD and football coach Gregory Thompson (59-78-4) has resigned.

Ohio University -- Named Jim Grobe, an Air Force assistant, football coach.

Richmond -- Named Jim Reid football coach.

Rollins -- Announced that Chip Morris, men's assistant basketball coach, has resigned to accept the same position at Butler.

Southern Cal -- Named Rod Marinelli defensive line coach.


Major League Soccer -- Acquired the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks in a stock exchange deal with team owner Daniel Van Voorhis.


USA Wrestling -- Named Joe Seay and Dan Chandler coaches for the 1995 world championships.
