1 Lake Clifton (record: 2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 1. The Lakers, ranked No. 14 nationally by USA Today opened the season with victories over Patterson (109-72) and Mervo (90-59) at the Tip-Off Mixer at Lake Clifton. Shawnta Rogers scored 54 points in the two victories. Next game: Tomorrow at City.

2 Dunbar (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 2. Tuesday, Billy Wells had 19 and Marvis Thornton added 18 in a 96-47 victory over Forest Park in the Tip-Off Mixer at Lake Clifton. In a 104-83 victory over then-No. 4 Walbrook in the Tip-Off Mixer, Thornton scored a game-high 37 points and Tommy Polley had 20. Next game: Saturday vs. No. 6 Southern-Balto. in the Fuel Fund Invitational at UMBC.

3 St. Frances (4-0) -- Last week's ranking: 3. In a 79-64 victory over Carver on Tuesday, Mark Karcher scored 15 points. Karcher scored a game-high 27 in a 66-52 victory over Withrop (Ohio) in a preliminary game at the Ohio Tournament in Cincinnati. Next game: Thursday vs. No. 15 Edmondson in the Function in the Junction Mixer at Walbrook.

4 Southwestern (3-0) -- Last week's ranking: 6. Ernie Evans scored five of his 17 points in overtime in the Sabers' 71-64 victory over Poly in the Tip-Off Mixer at Lake Clifton on Tuesday. Reginald Johnson scored 19 points in a 77-52 victory over Calvert on Wednesday. Saturday, Aaron Jolly had 17 in a 76-37 victory over City. Next game: Thursday vs. Dunbar (D.C.) in the Function in the Junction Mixer at Walbrook.

5 Walbrook (1-1) -- Last week's ranking: 4. At Lake Clifton's Tip-Off Mixer on Tuesday, Antwon Jenifer scored 30 points in a 85-59 victory over Northwestern. Saturday, Chris Reynolds scored 20 points in an 104-83 loss to Dunbar in the Tip-Off. Next game: Tomorrow at Carver.

6 Southern-Balto. (1-2) -- Last week's ranking: 5. The defending state 4A champions opened the season with a 53-29 victory over Mervo in the Tip-Off Mixer at Lake Clifton on Tuesday. Friday, John Hemsley scored 25 in a 92-68 loss to Maine Central Prep in the Tidewater Classic Mixer in Tidewater, Va. Saturday in Tidewater, Dedrick Galloway had 23 in a 59-47 loss to Petersburg (Va.). Next game: Saturday vs. No. 2 Dunbar in the Fuel Fund Invitational at UMBC.

7 Calvert Hall (3-0) -- Last week's ranking: 7. Tuesday, Sam Anyan scored 21 points in an 83-41 victory over Bishop Walsh. Friday, the Cardinals defeated McDonogh, 60-57, in overtime. Yesterday, Tavar Witherspoon scored 18 in a 81-37 victory over John Carroll. Next game: Friday against Nicholson Catholic of Canada.

8 Randallstown (3-0) -- Last week's ranking: 8. The Rams opened the season with three victories. Monday, Raymond Smith scored 17 in a 100-35 victory over Parkville. Lance Anderson had 29 in a 78-74 win over Dundalk, and Stanley Shields scored 13 of his 15 points in the final quarter in a 97-83 victory over then-No. 17 Woodlawn, ending the Warriors' 40-game winning streak against Baltimore County opponents. Next game: Wednesday against Lansdowne.

9 Milford Mill (1-0) -- Last week's ranking: 9. Blanchard Hurd scored 34 points and Keon Sellman added 29 in a 89-62 victory over Sparrows Point, extending the state's longest winning streak to 24 games. Next game: Dec. 21 at Catonsville.

10 Annapolis (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 10. In a 73-68 victory over Patterson on Monday, Ronnie Johnson scored 18 points. Friday, Johnson scored 27 in a 67-66 victory over then-No. 19 Glen Burnie. Next game: Tomorrow at Old Mill.

11 Arundel (1-0) -- Last week's ranking: 11. The Wildcats opened the season with a 72-51 victory over Meade as Bakari Ward scored 27 points and Kevin Higgins had 15. Next game: Tomorrow against North County.

12 Mount Hebron (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 12. Patrick Ngongba scored 17 points in a 73-39 victory over Friends. Ngongba had 21 and Phil Tonkins and Kurtis Jestes added 14 each in a 74-49 win over Fallston Friday. Next game: Today at Westlake.

13 Broadneck (1-0) -- Last week's ranking: 13. Jason Smith scored 19 points as the Bruins opened their season with a 72-46 victory over Glen Burnie on Wednesday. Next game: Wednesday against Patterson.

14 Atholton (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 15. In a 68-47 victory over South Carroll on Tuesday, Brian Benden scored 23 and D. J. Chiles added 16. Friday, Benden had 15 and Chiles added 14 in a 71-40 victory over Liberty. Next game: Tomorrow against Edgewood.

15 Edmondson (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 16. Lamont Branch )) scored 26 points in a 65-57 win over Northern in the Tip-Off Mixer at Lake Clifton. 16 Douglass (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: 18. The Ducks opened the season with victories over City (73-45) on Tuesday and Forest Park (63-51) on Saturday at the Tip-Off Mixer at Lake Clifton. Lamont Prilliman scored 44 points in the two victories. Next game: Tomorrow against Patterson.

17 Gibbons (4-0) -- Last week's ranking: 20. In a 76-53 win over Spalding, Josh Davalli scored 24 points and Vernon Collins added 17. Friday, Davalli scored 17 in a 72-64 victory over Poly. Next game: Wednesday against Nicholson Catholic of Canada.

18 Oakland Mills (2-0) -- Last week's ranking: Not ranked. The Scorpions debut in the Top 20 after beating Linganore (57-51) on Wednesday and Aberdeen (83-61) on Friday. Michael Hill scored 45 in the victories. Next game: Tomorrow against Liberty.

19 Edgewood (1-0) -- Last week's ranking: Not ranked. Edgewood makes its first appearance in the Top 20 after Mike Baldwin scored 20 points in an 85-70 victory over Elkton. Next game: Tomorrow at No. 14 Atholton.

20 Severn (5-2) -- Last week's ranking: 14. Tuesday, Alhamisi Simms scored 28 points in a 74-67 win over Old Mill. He had 20 in a 62-57 loss to St. Paul's on Wednesday. After losing, 62-60, to Loyola on Friday, the Admirals beat host Boys' Latin, 65-60, in the semifinals of the Laker Invitational. Next game: Tomorrow against Towson Catholic.
