Opera presented at Peabody wins prize

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The chamber opera "With Blood, With Ink," first presented last year at the Peabody Conservatory, has won first prize in a biannual competition held by the National Opera Association.

Created by former Peabody students Daniel Crozier and Peter Krask, the chamber opera concerns the life of Suor Juanna della Cruz, the 17th-century Mexican poet, proto-feminist and rebellious nun.

Composer Daniel Crozier is an assistant professor of music at Radford University in Virginia. Librettist Peter Krask is a free-lance writer in Boston.

The National Opera Association will sponsor a fully staged performance of the opera at its convention in Boston next year.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's law school who holds a master's degree from the Yale School of Drama, Ms. Channick will work closely with managing director Peter Culman and artistic director Irene Lewis on a wide variety of administrative issues. She will commute to Yale this spring in order to continue teaching a course on law and the arts.
