TEAM-BY-TEAM WRESTLING CAPSULES

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Aberdeen Eagles

1993-94 record: 15-0. Coach: Dick Slutzky.

Top wrestlers: Corey Pascuzzi, 125, Sr.; DeWayne Whitley, 152, Sr.; Kit Doran, 160, Sr.; Eric Morgan, Hwt., Sr.

Outlook: The rich (perennial county team champion) got richer ,, (individual champion Pascuzzi is a transfer) and this group should continue its county domination. Slutzky said, "This team has good balance with some capable wrestlers in most weight classes."

Bel Air Bobcats

1993-94 record: 5-6. Coach: Craig Reddish.

Top wrestlers: Matt Birth, 130, Sr.; Bryan Stewart, 140, Sr.; Jason Smith, 152, Sr.

Outlook: There are fewer candidates than in recent seasons, but there are some individuals who are expected to do well. The team will give away some weight classes in dual meets, but the quality is expected to put the team in the middle of the pack in

tournaments.

C.M. Wright Mustangs

1993-94 record: Not available. Coach: Kenny Bryant.

Top wrestlers: Cory Grace, 112, Soph.; James Johnson, 125-135, Sr.; Dave Schmidt, 130-140, Jr.; Ryan Walter, 160-171, Sr.; Chad Bettac, 189, Sr.

Outlook: Schmidt (county 103 champion two years ago) and Grace (third in the county at 112 last year) top a squad that has some experienced seniors and talented sophomores.

Edgewood Rams

1993-94 record: 4-9. Coach: Fred Foster.

Top wrestlers: David Schimmel, 140, Sr.; Rob Mister, 152, Sr.; John Loss, 160, Jr.; Greg Cherry, 171, Jr.; John Cephalis, 189, Sr.; Scott Hawk, Hwt., Jr.

Outlook: First-year coach Foster has a strong group that he expects to do well in the upper weights, but there is a lot of inexperience, too. He will bring the young ones along slowly as he begins to build a program. A .500 dual-meet record is possible, and there are expectations of challenging for third or fourth in the county tournament.

Fallston Cougars

1993-94 record: 8-5. Coach: Andy Amasia.

Top wrestlers: Sam Tietjen, Sr., 119; Joe Ercolano, 125, Soph.; Patrick Elliott, Sr., 140; David Sindall, 145, Sr.

Outlook: The lineup is pretty solid with a holdover in every weight class, and some with impressive junior varsity experience challenging for positions.

Harford Tech Cobras

1993-94 record: 2-11. Coach: Gary Siler.

Top wrestlers: Jimmy Ross, 119, Jr.; Kevin Smeltzer, 125, Sr.; Eddie Jones, 135, Sr.; Bobby Mills, 140, Soph.; Leroy Simms, 145, Jr.; Jason Emenhiser, Hwt., Jr.

Outlook: It likely will be a tough season because of a lack of numbers and experience. This will be the first season the school has a junior varsity team, and although both teams will have to forfeit some weights, the younger squad will provide a foundation for the future.

Havre de Grace Warriors

1993-94 record: 2-10-1. Coach: Greg Long.

Top wrestlers: Jeff Brochu, 119, Sr.; Paul Johnson, 145, Soph.

Outlook: With only three returning wrestlers and the ability to fill only eight weight classes, the team outlook is not good. Brochu was a county and regional finalist at 103 last year.

John Carroll Patriots

1993-94 record: 5-5. Coach: Bill Reichert.

Top wrestlers: Scott Davis, 119, Jr.; Pat Dawson, 140, Soph.; John Cohen, 152, Sr.; Andrew Dunn, 160, Sr.; Mike Babiak, 171, )) Jr.; Greg Stotlar, Hwt., Sr.

Outlook: Stotlar heads an experienced cast that finished 13th of 20 teams in the recent Maryland Catholic Invitational tournament. A rugged schedule includes Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association powers Mount St. Joseph, Boys' Latin and Archbishop Curley. Boys' Latin and defending champion Aberdeen will be among the eight teams in John Carroll's holiday tournament next weekend.

Joppatowne Mariners

1993-94 record: 5-7. Coach: Larry Swift.

Top wrestlers: Rick Desper, 112, Soph.; Mike Griffith, 145, Sr., Travis Volmar, 152, Jr.

Outlook: Griffith (fourth in the regionals) and Volmar (second in the regionals) are the leaders on a team of more than 25 wrestlers, with some good talent at the low- to mid-weight classes.

North Harford Hawks

1993-94 record: 9-3. Coach: Fred Holtz.

Top wrestlers: Mike Liptrap, 119, Sr.; Zach Rose, 140, Sr.; Jaysson Eicholtz, 160, Sr.; Paul Konschak, 171, Sr.; Tom Staab, 189, Jr.

Outlook: The Hawks' top five returnees placed in the county meet last year and they have been joined by some strong candidates. The result is Holtz expects at least to match last year's record. The squad has looked good in scrimmages, and Holtz is pleased.
