Parkhurst opts for 'Tall Boys' in filling the hockey gap for '64-65

THE BALTIMORE SUN

In 1964-65, Parkhurst did not issue hockey cards, and Topps' cards grew to 2 1/2 by 4 11/16 inches. The "Tall Boys" are coming back this month, but they'll be Parkies.

Last year, Brian Price, president of Parkhurst, created the "Missing Link" set, his conception of what the 1956-57 cards would have looked like had Parkhurst chosen to issue a set that season.

This year, he's chosen the "Tall Boy" concept for another set Parkhurst never made, cards for the '64-65 season (the last original Parkhurst set was 1963-64).

The set, which has 180 regular cards and 24 inserts, will again be produced by Upper Deck. It will be limited to 1,964 numbered cases each for the United States and Canada. There will be randomly inserted cards signed by Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Phil Esposito, Dave Keon, Rod Gilbert and Yvan Cournoyer.

One insert set features future stars Jacques Lemaire, Gerry Cheevers, Ken Hodge, Bernie Parent, Rogie Vachon and Derek Sanderson. The other, Canadian and American greats, uses a 1951-52 Parkhurst design that can be popped out of the card.

Mammoth cards are 7 1/2 -by-10 1/2 versions of Action Packed cards. The pins come four to a pack with one visible. CoaStars come in sets of six coasters featuring players in home and away jerseys.

Racing exchange

SkyBox is ready to redeem exchange cards from its Premier Edition Racing Cards for a limited edition card of Brickyard 400 winner Jeff Gordon. Cards will be redeemed until July 1, 1995.
