Victims of terrorism are honored at candlelight service

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Dozens of peace activists gathered for a memorial service at the Ner Tamid Congregation in Northwest Baltimore last night to honor Israelis and others killed during two decades of Arab terrorism.

The candlelight service -- organized by People Against Hate to occur on the same day as the presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway, to Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat -- included a seminar focusing on the threat of terrorism.

The service was sponsored by six Baltimore synagogues: Shomrei Emunah, Shaarei Zion, Ner Tamid, Suburban Orthodox, Tiferes Yisrael and Woodmoor Hebrew.

Participants included Thomas Neumann, director of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs; Neil Livingstone, president of the Institute on Terrorism and Subnational Conflict; and author Yossef Bodansky.
