It's an uncharacteristic pattern that has become a little too familiar for the Baltimore Bays this season.
Win a game, lose a game, win a game and so on -- until last night. Six players scored in a seven-minute stretch early in the second quarter to lead the Bays to a 15-6 win over the Connecticut Wolves at Du Burns Arena in Canton.
"I thought the first half was the best we've played all year long," said Bays coach Kevin Healey.
"We got on top early and were able to take advantage of some of their mistakes. They were trying push up a lot."
It was the first time this season the Bays (4-2) have come away with back-to-back wins. Last year, the Bays were undefeated in the regular season.
After climbing back into first place in the U.S. Interregional Soccer League's North-South Division last week with an 8-3 win over the Richmond Kickers, the Bays solidified the spot in convincing fashion.
Bill Harte got things started in the big second quarter with an unassisted goal at the 1:21 mark. It gave the Bays a 4-2 lead and came 11 seconds after Connecticut's David Kelly had gotten the Wolves within one.
Joe Barger, Eric Riedlbauer (three goals, one assist), John Stroud, Dan Santoro and Roberto Ascenzi followed with goals to give the Bays a 9-2 lead with just over six minutes left in the half.
