Minnesota Twins -- Signed C Matt Merullo, who batted .300 for the Cleveland Indians' Triple-A team last season.

New York Mets -- Named Toby Harrah manager of Triple-A Norfolk.

New York Yankees -- Announced the resignation of chief of operations Jack Lawn.

Oakland Athletics -- Promoted Alan Ledford to VP of business operations.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Announced that manager Bill Dancy and hitting coach Bill Robinson will return to Double-A Reading.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Signed P Darrin Winston and former Orioles P Todd Frohwirth to contracts with Triple-A Calgary. Frohwirth, 32, split the 1994 season between the Boston Red Sox and Triple-A Pawtucket and has a 20-19 record and 3.50 ERA in 280 major-league appearances.

San Francisco Giants -- Re-hired bench coach Bob Lillis, pitching coach Dick Pole, hitting coach Bobby Bonds, third base coach Wendell Kim and bullpen coach Bob Brenly.

Basketball

Golden State Warriors -- Named Andy Dolich president and chief operating officer. Dolich once worked for the Washington Capitals.

Sacramento Kings -- Placed G-F Henry Turner on the injured list with a sprained right big toe. Activated G Doug Lee from the injured list.

Rapid City Thrillers (CBA) -- Signed former Washington Bullets G LaBradford Smith.

MEAC -- Named Coppin State's Rene Doctor women's Player of the Week after she averaged 15.7 points and 17.3 rebounds.

CIAA -- Named Bowie State's Ed Davis Coach of the Week after leading the women's basketball team to a 3-0 record.

Central Michigan -- Announced that it is dropping its soccer program.

Jersey City State -- Named Roy Miller football coach.

Southern Colorado -- Announced that senior basketball F Kurt Schneider has quit the team.

Cincinnati Bengals -- DT Tim Krumrie announced that he will retire after the season.

Houston Oilers -- Announced that G Kevin Donnalley will miss the next two games because of a strained left knee.
