A man who briefly abandoned his child while attempting to flee security officers after reportedly stealing clothing from a department store at the White Marsh Mall was being held on bail, Baltimore County police said.
Charged with theft, resisting arrest and assaulting the officers // and held in lieu of bail is David Tyler Bullock, 24, of the 5600 block of McClean Blvd. in Northeast Baltimore.
Police said Mr. Bullock was shopping at Macy's last night when a security officer allegedly saw him place more than $100 worth of clothing inside a baby stroller that was occupied by his young daughter.
The officer approached and detained him.
Police said as the officer was escorting Mr. Bullock to the store's security office, Mr. Bullock broke free of the officer's grasp and attempted to flee the store, leaving the child behind.
A second security officer joined his colleague in the pursuit and apprehended the man. During a brief struggle, one of the security officers was struck in the chest and arms. After subduing Mr. Bullock, he was handcuffed and taken to the security office and charged.
Police said a computer check indicated Mr. Bullock was wanted by city police for failing to appear for a court hearing on an unspecified charge and a child endangerment charge.
L Details of the child endangerment charge were not available.
Following an appearance before a District Court commissioner last night, Mr. Bullock was ordered held in lieu of $3,000 bail pending a bail review hearing before a District Court judge.
Police said the child was released into the custody of the man's relatives.
